Flood response

Flood response

Available on a 24/7 call-out

Our appliances and crews are available for non-life risk flood response to prevent damage to property in circumstances when the local authority Fire & Rescue Service is unable/un-willing to attend.

Working closely with the local emergency services we are able to attend incidents where the removal of flood water is causing a concern or risk to your home or organisation/workplace.

Recently we have supported the local emergency services when they were operating to the limit in inclement weather/spate conditions, deploying our crews trained in water rescue to DEFRA standards are as part of a multi-agency response.

Private Fire Hydrant Testing

British Standards require Fire hydrants are tested and serviced once a year. This is to ensure the water pressure and flow rate are adequate and a Certificate of Conformity can be issued.

Property owners and managers often ask ‘How often should a fire hydrant be tested and why?‘ Fire hydrants require annual testing to ensure that they are delivering water at a suitable pressure and flow. In addition they should be inspected to check they have not been tampered with or damaged. In an emergency the fire and rescue service will rely on a hydrant to provide adequate water direct from the mains. This is why it is vital that they are maintained in a fully operational condition with the correct fire hose attachments at all times. British Standard BS9990:2015 details the requirements and frequency of fire hydrant servicing.

Many fire hydrants are owned and maintained by water undertakers or local fire authorities. Privately owned fire hydrants are common for example at universities, shops, hall of residence, care homes. When fire hydrants are located on private property it is the responsibility of the owner, occupier or operator of the site to test the hydrant and maintain records of this. In the event of an incident, fire investigators will ask to see a Certificate of Conformity to demonstrate that the hydrant has been tested and maintained correctly.

Fire-Rescue Service can help!

As a fire and rescue service, we offer a comprehensive testing which meets all the legal requirements. We aim to give property owners peace of mind that their Fire Hydrant is in safe hands and fully compliant.

Weather related disruption

Fire-Rescue Service regularly attends calls for service when adverse weather downs trees, or damages property leaving it in a dangerous condition.

Should there be a risk to life you should immediately call 999.

As often is the case in severe weather events resources will be stretched and an immediate response by the statutory services or private companies such as tree surgeons might be unavailable or at best heavily delayed.
Fire-Rescue Service are happy to deploy and assist in these circumstances. We have the skills and equipment to remove downed trees, insecure aerials, roof tiles etc.

If the incident is on private property please contact us directly. Should the incident be on public property such as a road way then the request will need to originate from:
Local Authority Fire Service, Police, NHS Ambulance Service, County Council, Parish/Town Council, National Highways, Environment Agency
